The Concept
A complete system for measurement of soil respiration in the field. Place the soil chamber directly on the soil surface, or attach it to a collar that has been buried in advance. Air is re-circulated through the chamber and through an NDIR CO2 analyzer by a battery powered DC Pump. CO2 accumulation is monitored in software, and simple data analysis tools are used to calculate the rate of soil CO2 efflux. The system is easily portable and assembles in minutes. The NDIR CO2 analyzer, pump, interface and software are components of our CO650 Plant CO2 Analysis Package and RP1LP Low Range Respiration Package, so it is easy and inexpensive to build several different packages from modular components.
