The S305 Field Soil CO2 Analyzer comprises a stand-alone microprocessor controlled unit that measures the rate of CO2 efflux from an area of soil. A soil cap is placed on the soil surface, and air is pumped in a closed loop through the cap and then through a NDIR CO2 analyzer. CO2 efflux rate from the soil is calculated from the slope of the CO2 response after a flushing and equilibration period determined automatically by the software. The CO2 response and air temperature are shown graphically on the unit's display, as is the instantaneous CO2 efflux rate. Other sensors may be added to the systems as required. A simple CO2 calibration procedure in software guarantees accuracy and repeatability of the CO2 analyzer. The software also ensures adequate flushing and equilibration of the system prior to measurements, and determines the optimum period for measurement of CO2 efflux rate. Data runs are stored in memory for download as comma delimited files to Excel or other spreadsheet programs.
